The holiday season is approaching, and for many, this means countless gatherings and lots of festive food. It can seem both impossible and intimidating to stay on track with your health and weight loss goals, but I’m here to tell you, YOU CAN!

Below are my top 5 tips to stay on track during the holidays and continue to reverse your hormone or thyroid condition. 

1. Set a goal

It’s important to establish what your goals are during the holiday season. If you typically create your goals around weight loss, make sure to decide if your goal is to continue losing weight or to sustain. You could also have goals like keeping up energy levels or not over indulging.

Once you have set goals, you can then go into the holiday season with a plan.

2. Make a Plan

This is one of the easiest ways to remain on track during the holiday season and continue to reverse your thyroid imbalance. 

Plan your meals, and of course… factor in those fun, festive foods. 

There are many different ways to plan like: 

  • you can eat before an event
  • bring food with you
  • prepare a Keto Girl dish for everyone

You can also choose to eat at the event and if doing so, keep your goals in mind and load up on those Keto Girl foods like veggies and avocado!

3. Listen to your Hunger Cues & Use Non-Food Distractions

As you’re following your plan, pay attention to how your body feels. Do you have signs of hunger like a growling stomach or slight nausea? If so, honor your hunger and eat! 

After eating, if you still want more, wait about 15 minutes before continuing to eat. Use non-food distractions like conversing with others, drinking water, and doing some deep breathing. If you are still hungry after the 15 minutes, add more fat or protein to increase fullness.

Also, if you’re choosing to deviate away from the typical Keto Girl regimen and eat some of your favorite Holiday foods, take note of how you feel. It can help you determine what you may be most sensitive to and limit the chance of over indulgence.

4. Thank & Ask for To-Go Baggie

Are you staring at your grandma’s signature holiday cookies?! Perhaps she’s even asking you to try one, but you’ve noted that you are indeed full?

Graciously thank her and state “I’d love to, however I’m very full. Could I take some to-go?” Better yet, ask for the recipe for double points!

5. Find Balance

You CAN reverse your Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s while still enjoying the foods you love. Plenty of my Keto Girls have made it through the Holiday season while sustaining or continuing to lose weight.

PLAN your fun foods, and the treats you truly love. I always say… be a food snob! It’s always a good idea to practice mindful eating and truly savor the food you are eating. Eat slowly and be present, focus on the textures and the taste of food.
